Always Returns

Does love take as much as it gives
Or does love always take more
As it holds you captive within its embrace
Until you can't find yourself anymore

Love can make your heart sing
Then break it right in two
Leave you feeling scattered and empty
Trying to find you

Love can make you forget who you were
All for the one you adore
Carry you so far away from yourself
Alone you forget who you are

With time you will remember
Who you were before
Until love steps in and finds you again
Love always returns for more

Rambling Roses

Rambling roses wind round my heart
Containing many thorns
Such beauty they provide for free
For this place which they adorn

With petals soft as satin sheets
Hue of the reddest wine
Kept alive by that they hold
The warmth there which they find

If one can overlook the thorns
My lovely roses hide
Perhaps they can appreciate
What they hold inside

My Ship

My ship and I are sailing off to sea
Not sure where we are bound
Still I am smiling in the breeze
At this life I've found

I am the captain of my own ship
I sail where'er I please
I can always sail back home
Or I can stay at sea

My ship she is a beauty
Because she belongs to me
I can sail her by myself
In calm or stormy seas

Rumbling thunder is heard in the East
Lightning strikes in the West
The rain cascades down my back
But I feel no unrest

This hill I'm climbing is so steep
I've been here for years
I can't remember where I'm going
But I will cry no tears

I've not seen the sun in days
Everything is dark
Can't see where to place my feet
But I will hit my mark

No matter what may come my way
I'll make the best of it

Election

Only through your tender initiation
Does my life become whole

Your spirit in my soul

My victory is your own
If it's your will that I choose
Knowing against this I can rebel
But our victory I will lose

I will always have
The freedom to make a choice
Between a life that is false
Or a true one with your voice

I can face this life alone

You see through me right into me

Recognizing same but different

Knowing who I am

How can two be so much alike
Know each others hearts

 Feeding On The Fire

What feeds the fire that fans the flame
Inside this heart of mine
Ignites my soul and makes it breathe
Until surrender is divine

The thirst the need intense desire
To feel the fire burn
Fuels the flame that burns inside
For that of which I yearn

To live to learn to not be burned
Of which I know not how
Feeding on the flickering fire of love
The heart should not allow

To freeze the pain the heart does feel
A task that must be learned
To save a heart that feeds the fire
From the fiery burn

As You Are

Looking through these eyes of love
I see you as you are
Imperfect but so wonderful
Shining from afar

I see a heart of immense beauty
Created by the One above
Overflowing with such tenderness
Made for me to love

I love you despite your imperfections
The same as you love me
My love for you will never change
No matter what I see

Sometimes we may get angry
Part with hurting words
My love for you will stay the same
No matter what I heard

Why am I wearing my heart on my sleeve

Shadows of Dreams

Shadows of dreams in the back of your mind
Haunting you every day
Spinning so quickly round your head
Never going away

Turning and twisting around your heart
Feelings you cannot share
Saying so much and telling so little
Just doesn't seem to be fair

An aching inside that cannot be filled
You cannot understand why
Looking perhaps at all the wrong things
Never taking the time to try

The dreams that are shadows will not fade away
Nor will they ever depart
As they are all stored and waiting to live
In the place known as your heart

Independence

I release you from my grasp

Time has slipped away

But now you've come into your own

Go out and learn about the world
Be what you want to be

If ever you get tired of flying free
Or have nowhere to go

Completely Full

There is an empty room inside this house

With everything you need

Close your eyes I'll take you there

Together we can see

The emptiness is a facade

As it's completely full

What it holds cannot be seen

But has such tremendous pull

There is no chair to sit upon

No pictures on the walls

But as it's empty have no fear

That you will trip and fall

In this room there is no sound

Nothing stirs at all

But you can hear the most lovely things

Right within these walls

Come with me and take a look

No one but we two

And you'll discover it's not empty

As it contains my love for you

April 17, 2010 - I Took The Moon

I Took The Moon

I reached up and caught the moon
And took it home with me
Placed it in my pocket and walked away
Thought no change it would bring

I felt so proud to have obtained
Such a lovely jewel
Absolutely free at no cost to me
But I was such a fool

When I ran off with the moon
I broke the heart of the sea
As the tides no longer knew what to do
And didn't want to be

The Earth cried as it began to be pulled
Way too close to the Sun
So much chaos began to reign
I had no idea what I'd done

The stars all went out one by one
They no longer wanted to shine
Without the face of their beautiful friend
Who smiled on them oh so kind

So I took the moon back and placed it high
Where it's supposed to be
Such confusion I created by taking
What doesn't belong to me

In You I find my refuge

Shelter for my soul

Reinforcing you in my soul

You have been my teacher

Since I was but a child

To this day I sing your praise

Knowing your heart smiles

I know your righteousness is boundless

Though trouble I may see

I'm comforted in the knowledge

Has The Music Ended

What has happened to the music
I heard so sweetly played
Between two hearts that sang as one
With the voice that love did make

A melody warm and haunting
With words of love so sweet
Sang in harmony soft and clear
That never missed a beat

Such a symphony was created
As two hearts sang as one
Written by the hand of love
To never come undone

Has the music ended
Does the tune no longer play
How could love's song end suddenly
If true love never fades

Untouched

I reside in the shelter of your arms
Resting in your shadow

Dentro

Mistaken ideas that we can love someone
Enough to make them change
Will only cause grief for ourselves
And unending pain

We can only change ourselves
That inside we hide
So listen to those words
Coming unbidden from inside

A quick and spontaneous reaction
Unplanned and unrehearsed
Will tell one what's inside themselves
And so often will hurt

Let's take a good look inside ourselves
I'm sure there's much to do
And I will work on me
While you go work on you

Mired

So many of the tears we cry
Do not cleanse our souls
Feeling sorry for ourselves
Will not make us whole

As we travel through the valley
Known as The Place of Weeping
We're not meant to stay there
Sorrow's not for keeping

Tears can wash away the pain
Of anger and of grief
But if we fail to grow and learn
They'll bring no relief

We feel what we feel
With this there's nothing wrong
Just ensure that you don't
Stay mired in your tears for long

Sevenfold

What you do comes back to you

I hear it's sevenfold

Whether it's good or bad

The story is age old

So often you don't think about

How someone feels for you

You never give a second thought

As you break their heart in two

So many of us hit the door

With wings upon our feet

Never giving a second look

At the pain we leave

It may never cross your mind

That all they think about is you

But one day you may find yourself

Hurting like they do

If you leave a trail of broken hearts

Lying in a row

Perhaps one day you'll find yourself

Reaping what you sow

Don't ever treat hearts carelessly

Leaving hurt that burns a trail

Or you may find the one who pays you back

Descant

The darkness it has faded

A new song my heart does sing

The sun has risen in my life

Such a glorious day it brings

Once my life was full of darkness

No light was there ahead

I felt nothing at all inside

All my joy was dead

Now my eyes are open wide

A smiles upon my face

As I now know what is true

And see it put in place

I now have a life that's changed

A heart that is brand new

A new song plays inside of me

As I find faith anew

The world I cannot change alone

It's firm and can't be moved

But I can share what's changed in me

Capricious Heart

The heart can make one into such a fool

So blind the eyes can't see

For reasons unknown to anyone

It reaches for what can't be

The heart never seems to be satisfied

What a sight it is to behold

And you'll often find it crying out

For what it cannot hold

The funny thing that I have found

About this heart of mine

Is when it does get what it wants

It doesn't want what it finds

  Exactly who will win this race
Is everything but clear

The heart will win every time

This circle that we spin

The mind cries out enough already
But the heart cannot let go
It seems to love this circling

The Inner Me


Not sure of who I was, or who I wanted to be
I have wandered here and there
Searching for the inner me
 And to others, myself, I compared

Running from myself for so many years
I got entangled in bondage

Is a battle I fought everyday

Empty Air

Sometimes I can't see you and I can't feel you
There is nothing but emptiness in my air
Once I felt you all around me
Now I wonder if you're there

I feel so cold and all alone
Not even your shadow's in my sight
And all my heart can think about
Is giving up this fight

With all I have inside I pray and try
To get you back into my life
To feel that I'm a part of you
And stop this pain that's causing all this strife

How much longer do I think I can continue on
Pretending nothing inside has changed
When all I hear is empty air
When I call your name

Then I recall all the promises in your Word
That will fill up this empty space
And they are enough to fill my empty air
And all my tears erase
