April 29, 2010 - Rambling Roses

Rambling Roses

Rambling roses wind round my heart
Containing many thorns
Such beauty they provide for free
For this place which they adorn

With petals soft as satin sheets
Hue of the reddest wine
Kept alive by that they hold
The warmth there which they find

If one can overlook the thorns
My lovely roses hide
Perhaps they can appreciate
What they hold inside

'With petals soft as satin sheets', what a beautiful phrase, I love the imagery you've chosen again in this poem Neva and the deep message.

I have mixed feelings about roses...I pay the price with blood every time I mess with that big rosebush in my back yard....

love this poem, the pedals as soft as satin. roses are one of my favorite flowers besides sunflowers that i call the happy flowers. roses are very seductive in a sense that they hold such beauty with thorns that prick.
